NEWBERRY — Two Newberry High football players will be headed with coach Bill Harvey to the Shrine Bowl in December.

Trahjare Reeder and Eric Gallman have both been selected to play on the South Carolina team.

Both Reeder and Gallman say it is an honor for them to play in the game and they believe their hard work has earned them the right to play in the game.

The game pits the best high school players from South Carolina against those from North Carolina. Each team has 44 players.

Each state has a head coach and six assistant coaches. This year Harvey was selected as an assistant coach. Harvey is an assistant coach for the Bulldogs.

A player and assistant coaches can only be a coach at the game once. The assistant coach can then be selected as head coach.

All of the money raised in the game goes to Shriner hospitals including the one in Greenville. The 2011 game receipts and temple contributions raised $1.677 million.

This years game will be played at 1 p.m. on Dec. 15 at Gibbs Stadium at Wofford College in Spartanburg.
