Within the next few weeks restaurants and bars in the city of Newberry should be serving alcohol on Sundays.

The City of Newberry leaders have sent a checklist of information to the S.C. Department of Revenue.

The list included the ordinance passed by the city council, notices of the public hearing and election and other information.

The DOR is now in the process of putting the information into its system.

By next week local businesses will be able to apply for the licences and once they are obtained the Sunday sales may start.

The Sunday sales come after a 245-93 vote Tuesday in favor of an ordinance allowing the Sunday sales for on site consumption.

In November, a countywide vote will be taken for sales for both on site sales and sales in stores. The county vote cannot change the city vote if it is rejected.

But if it passes convenience and grocery stores in the city can sale alcohol on Sunday.
