Smilin’ Swingers SquareDance Club will celebrate their 36th anniversary dance to honor Earle Merchant for his dedicated service as teacher and caller.

Smilin’ Swingers had their first dance class 36 years ago at Newberry College and moved to Mt. Bethel Garmany Community Center later to Griffin School of Dance. They are presently at John Deere Hall, the dance home of the Smilin’ Swingers.

On Saturday the group will celebrate Merchant’s 36 year of service to the club at the St. Philip’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall at 7:30 until 10:30 p.m.

Jerry Biggerstaff of Marion, N.C. and Jimmy Roberson of Oxford, N.C. will be the callers and Fran Merchant will lead rounds and lines.

All former Smilin’ Swingers are invited.

New square dance classes will begin April 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the John Deere Hall and Al Tarver will be the instructor.

For more information, call Earle Merchant at 364-3156 or Donny Sligh at 940-0083.
