School board filing books closed

Six people have filed their petitions for the Newberry County School Board for the upcoming election.

The deadline was on Saturday at noon at the Newberry County Voter Registration office on Wilson Road.

Out of the six candidates, four are running for another term and two candidates are brand new.

For district one which represents Whitmire and Bush River area, Ike Bledsoe has filed and has no opposition.

In district three, Brent Connelly will face incumbent Lucy Anne Meetze. It represents the Pomaria area.

For district four, board chairman Jody Hamm has filed and has no opposition. This area is outside the city of Newberry.

Finally, for district six, incumbent Gregg Taylor will face Jessie Reeder. The area includes Chappells, Silverstreet and Helena.

The election will be held in the regular Nov. 6 general election.

There are seven total board members and Clyde Hill, Hugh Gray and Lee Attaway’s terms are not up. Their term goes through 2014.
