Prosperity did not have any new business to discuss at their town council meeting.

This may be a first in a couple of years, according to Prosperity Mayor Derek Underwood on Tuesday evening.

Underwood commented that from looking at the agenda, they have made a lot happen. He referenced the refurbished Depot, Forest Hills sewer project and sidewalks.

He said that they are to keep pushing forward.

As far as the sidewalks around the downtown area go, they are a work in progress but councilman Chad Hawkins is persistent with the S.C. Department of Transportation in making sure that Prosperity is not pushed to the side.

He did report that a goal start date for March has been set in renovating some of the sidewalks around the downtown area.

As far as the Forest Hills sewer project, town administrator Karen Livingston said that the sludge has all been removed and on Wednesday, the trees were to be removed.

While the Depot has come a long way, the town is still waiting to have the deck around the depot refinished so that it is American with Disabilities Act compliant.

Because of this, the depot is limited to its use of the building.

In public safety news, the police department administrator Benji Sease reported that the Prosperity officers are working on being seen more around town.

Also the officers will visit the downtown businesses more, at least a few times a day, to make sure all is okay.

There will also be a weekly update.

The council has scheduled a special meeting for Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. to discuss the utility truck purchase in addition to the police car. The council needed to meet before the regularly scheduled meeting in October because of the deadline for purchasing the vehicles.

The next town council meeting is Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at town hall.
