The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate a Wednesday shooting on Adelaide Street.

Around 6 p.m. Wednesday, the shooting victim went to the Newberry Memorial Hospital emergency room suffering from a single gunshot wound to the buttocks.

The wound was from a small caliber weapon.

The victim was treated and then released from the hospital, according to Sheriff Lee Foster. The Sheriff’s Office is not disclosing the victim’s identity.

Deputies report that the shooting happened at an Adelaide Street residence.

“Officers processed the crime scene and are currently interviewing witnesses and conducting follow up investigation,“ stated Foster. “We will not identify the victim until an arrest is made. We feel that an arrest will occur in a matter of days. It appears that the victim was familiar with persons at the residence and this was not a random act of violence.“

I know the people who live down that little dirt road where this happened. Those people are always fussing and fighting. I am just surprised no one was killed. The neighbors around here have complained about these people for a very long time but I guess it will take someone dying before the sheriff's department will take us seriously. This used to be a very nice neighborhood, but neighborhoods in Newberry are under siege.
