As Newberry College nursing students started their senior year yesterday, they also started practicing advice they will soon be giving.

The activity will be incorporated with the holistic medicine into their studies and includes mental, physical and spiritual activities.

The students hit the football field Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. for boot camp.

But first they heard from Newberry College Chaplin Ernie Worman who started the morning with a story about him being carried over the finish line in boot camp and prayed over the class.

Also the nursing students were given shirts to wear during the boot camp that had Advanced Boot Camp on the back.

Over the next two weeks the students will be on the field for physical fitness each Tuesday and Thursday.

The students started the first workout session with stretches, jumping jacks and running before starting races that including filling jars with water carried in sponges.

Once the workout was completed the group headed to enjoy breakfast together.

During the next two weeks, the nursing students will practice new dietary guidelines, keep a diet log and keep up with carbohydrates. They will also enjoy heart healthy meals.

Also the group will work on team building.

As Worman told them there is “great power and strength in team building.” He also encouraged them to start building relationships with one another.

Over the week, the teams made up of five to six students, will be given points for the races they win and how they manage their diet and carbs and at the end of the two week challenge the winning team will be given a prize.
