The Newberry Lions Club installed its officers for the 2012-13 club year at a recent meeting.

Gene Crocker is president of the Newberry Lions Club; Milton Price is the first vice-president; Jean Williamson, treasurer; Lee Ringer, second vice-president and tail twister; William Ashmore, Lion tamer; Pete Simpson, secretary and Ray Amick, Yoder Bedenbaugh, Tom Bradley and Tyler Turner are board members.

The Newberry Lions Club has served the Newberry community in the important area of sight conservation, with assistance to the visually impaired and hearing impaired since its foundation in 1928.

The club meets twice each month on Tuesday evenings and welcomes new members who are interested in service to others. Plans are being made for the Lions Candy Day, which will be on Oct. 5.

Members of the community will have an opportunity to make donations toward this service program.

The donated money is used directly to provide sight and hearing assistance to the needy. It’s also used to support eye and vision research.

Durable Lions Club brooms will also be for sale on Candy Day.

Lions Club brooms are available throughout the year at Sherwin Williams on College Street.

Proceeds from the brooms also go directly to fund Lions Club charities.
