COLUMBIA — Newberry will travel to Columbia Friday for the second round of the Region 2-A playoffs.
The Bulldogs are 8-3 while Columbia is 4-6.
But despite their record, Columbia is a pretty good team, says Newberry coach Phil Strickland.
“They run the spread good and are similar to us,” he said. “Their defense gets after it good.”
The Bulldogs will get Tyon Williamson back after an injury and Strickland says he is 90 percent. Williams got the nickname of Touchdown Tyon early in the season.
But last week the ‘Dogs lost Jaylen Lindsay due to a dislocated elbow.
Strickland says the free safety was playing good ball and had gotten better this week.
Columbia leads the series 6-2 in games between the two schools, who have met since 1930.
If the Bulldogs win they will face either Central or Keenan.
