PROSPERITY — This season, the Mid-Carolina Rebels girls junior varsity basketball team had the best record in their region.

“We had the best record in the region winning eight (games) and losing only two,” said Charlene Pitts, head coach of the girls JV team. “Our overall record was 11-3.”

Mid-Carolina won 11 of its 14 games.

Throughout the season, Mid-Carolina won games against Chapin, Gilbert, Ninety Six, Saluda, Batesburg-Leesville, Abbeville, and Newberry, losing only to Chapin in a region game with a score of 21 to 24, and in non-region games to Abbeville with a score of 36 to 39 and to Newberry with a score of 20 to 27.

The team’s lead scorer was Kiasia Hunter, a sophomore, who scored an average of nine points per game.

Brianna Stewart, a sophomore, led the team in rebounds, averaging over eight rebounds per game.

“I am very proud of these girls for the successful year we had,” Pitts said, expressing her pride in the team’s performance this season. “They put forth the effort it takes to win and they played together as a team.”

The 10th-graders on the team are April Cumalander, Brianna Stewart, Hunter, Samantha Belk, Deari Jackson, Jawann Joiner and Odalis Robles Reyes. The ninth-graders are Tori Caldwell, Kendall Cantrell, Hannah Hogan, Tranisha Hardy and Jamarian Abney.
