PROSPERITY — A play depicting the not-so-average comedic life of teenagers takes center stage 6 p.m. Sunday at Mid-Carolina High School’s cafeteria when the Mid-Carolina High Drama Club presents “The Kissing Chronicles.”
“It is a collection of three plays and it’s all geared around a high school setting in modern time,” said Jessica Stalker, drama club sponsor and English teacher.
“The Kissing Chronicle” includes three plays altogether and then two five-minute brief plays, said Stalker.
“People can expect a night of laughter and comedy,” she said, adding that the audience’s reaction is essential. “The play is not original. It’s based on Edgar Eaton and his collection of plays. He’s a drama and English teacher from Auburn, Wash. The play comes through I.E. Clark Publications Service.”
The first play is called “Post Holes Drug Free.”
“It’s about a brother and sister whose youth group goes around cleaning up yards. They mistakenly choose a yard whose owner doesn’t appreciate the help,” said Stalker, who didn’t want to give away anymore than that.
In the next play, “The Big Debate,” students will debate lottery sales, explained Stalker. “This is the largest part of the play,” she said.
The third play, called “The Kissing Bandit,” is about a young lady who goes into a convenience store Robin Hood style and ends up stealing a kiss.
“It’s more of a farce, extreme comedy,” said Stalker.
This will be the drama club’s first play of the year and then in April or May they hope to present a spring play, said Stalker.
The drama club at Mid-Carolina presented their first play, “The Southfield Stories,” in May 2012.
“I think they have progressed from last year to this year with lengthier acting and being able to react more with the audience. The audience reaction is essential with this play,” said Stalker.
Admission is $7 at the door. All proceeds from Sunday’s production goes to future productions. Concessions will be available. The play will last about an hour and a half.
