NEWBERRY — A Magistrate Court judge denied bond Monday for a Prosperity man charged with killing his 56-year-old brother.
Daryl Richburg, 49, of 126 Richburg Drive, was charged Sunday with murder in connection with the death of Walter Tom Hawkins Jr., also of 126 Richburg Drive.
Hawkins was last seen Friday night and was reported missing Saturday afternoon. His body was found Sunday in a wooded area off Maple Knoll Court, which is off U.S. 391 in Prosperity.
Hawkins had been beaten and died of a laceration of the brain due to a closed head injury, according to Coroner Craig Newton.
According to state law, a person charged with a crime that can carry a life sentence in prison — such as murder — must go before a Circuit Court judge for a bond hearing.
The next General Sessions Court term in Newberry will be March 18.
