The Town of Prosperity is going to be flourishing with activity this weekend.
The Prosperity Hoppin’ festival will be carrying on Friday and Saturday with music, food, a 5K run and walk, community yard sale, local artisans and vendors and plenty of family fun activity where children can have a blast.
While the Prosperity Hoppin’ pageant was held last Saturday, the festival kicks off on Friday and runs into Saturday with the run and walk and events around town. The pageant hosted more than 40 young ladies from newborns to late teens. The winners will make an appearance at the festival on Friday.
Friday night
The festival kicks off at the Prosperity Civic Center at 6 p.m. with the Hoppin’ queens showing off their newly earned crowns as well as activities outside the center and vendors inside the center.
Activities range the gamut from bouncy rides, bungee jumping, a mechanical bull and other fun activities. The town’s fire department and rescue squad will also be at the event for people to see the inside of the vehicles.
Inside vendors will include local crafters and businesses as well as free child ID kits, a chiropractic posture and spinal analysis, face painting, health and fitness featuring Take Shape for Life and even a couple of schools providing snacks.
There will also be a car show outside sponsored by the Newberry Car Buffs and Stokes-Trainor with an array of vintage and modern vehicles.
When the hunger pains strike, there will be plenty of food from the Prosperity Business Association, Main Dish and other vendors.
The business association will have their frog legs along with chicken strips and other side items. There will be plenty of snacks and food for purchase.
Later on in the evening, Third Generation Band takes the stage from 6-9 p.m. and The Breakers take the stage from 9 p.m. until.
The event will continue throughout the evening and start up once again on Saturday.
Saturday
The 5K run/walk is certified through Strictly Running and will start and end at town hall.
People may register the day of and it will be $25. Otherwise, it will be $20 in advance and participants will receive a special T-shirt.
The event starts at 8 a.m. with registration starting at 7 a.m. Winners will be per age category.
Later on Saturday, the depot will be open with local artists and vendors showcasing their goodies.
The business association will have their community event in the town’s public parking lot across from the depot.
Also children will have a special craft station set up in front of Hamm’s Hardware. There will be crafts and supplies where children can stop by and create a craft for free.
