GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Despite a first half goal from junior Stephen Harvey, the Newberry men’s soccer team saw a lead disappear in the second half as the Tusculum Pioneers topped the Wolves 2-1 on Sunday.

Newberry (3-6-1, 0-4-1 SAC) fended off a Tusculum (5-5-2, 2-2-1 SAC) attack in the opening half and grasped one of its few scoring opportunities in the 20th minute when Harvey (Kingston, Jamaica) found himself on the end of a through ball from freshman Julian Feneberg (Durach, Germany) and buried it for his first of the season.

Three minutes later, Harvey saw another opportunity blocked by a Tusculum defender and shortly after the Wolves saw a Feneberg shot saved by Tusculum’s keeper Victor Ohlin.

Five minutes into the second period, Tusculum’s Tiago Doneux evened up the match when he headed in a cross from Fredrik Muren. Tusculum continued its assault on goal until in the 86th minute, Roberto Pimentel scored off a Muren cross for the eventual game winner.

The Wolves saw one final opportunity miss just over the crossbar when Feneberg fired a shot from 10 yards out with two second remaining on the clock.

Newberry next plays on Wednesday when conference and in-state rivals Anderson travel to the Newberry College Soccer Field for a 4 p.m. scheduled kickoff.
