The district began H1N1 vaccinations at elementary schools last Thursday and expects to finish inoculating at each county elementary school before Thanksgiving, said Beth Bozard, County Health Supervisor for Newberry County Health Department.

“It has gone very, very well,” Bozard said. “We kind of got an assembly line going.”

About 30-50 percent of the district’s school population wanted the free voluntary shot, as well as eligible teachers, said Bozard yesterday.

It takes several nurses about a day per elementary school, said Bozard, with upwards of 219 shots per school.

“The students are very well-behaved,” said Bozard.

Elementary students in Whitmire Community School were vaccinated yesterday, and Little Mountain Elementary students receive vaccinations today.

The H1N1 shot team heads to Reuben Elementary Monday.
