Whitmire’s town council meeting proved swift Monday night.

There were no action items taken and not too much new business.

However, golf is up and swinging this summer.

For one, there’s the ongoing Hook-a-kid on golf program which runs through the month with a tournament at the end for the kids to show off their skill and show what they’ve learned.

There were about half boys and half girls with the total being in the 20s. This takes place at the golf course in Whitmire.

The Whitmire Jaycees are also hosting their first golf tournament at the Whitmire Golf Course.

The event will be July 28 and tee time starts at 9 a.m.

They are still in need of sponsors and players to compete and the proceeds benefit the town as the Jaycees use the money for events around town and to help the community.

The Jaycees especially help out around Christmas with the parade and helping less fortunate children.

People may sign up the day of but they may also email the Jaycees at whitmirejaycees@yahoo.com or call Sue Hollingsworth at 694-3797.
