Union County (2-2) at Newberry (3-1)

Union leads 27-24 since 1930.

Newberry coach Phil Strickland is 7-0 against Union during his tenure at Gaffney.

Newberry is 48-22-3 in homecoming games since 1935.

A win would give the Newberry graduating class of 2013 a record of 3 wins and 1 loss on homecomings in their four years at NHS. This would make 43 straight freshman classes that had at least a 2-2 homecoming record. Only seven freshman classes since 1950 had sub-.500 homecoming records.

The last time Newberry won back-to-back homecoming games was 2004-07.

Union was Newberry’s homecoming opponent in 1938, ’40 and ’80. NHS won all three games.

Newberry and Union met every year from 1948 to 1997. These 40 years is the longest streak for NHS playing the same opponent in school history.

The last time Newberry defeated Union three straight times was 1968-70.

Newberry is 5-1 on homecoming games ending in a ‘2’ Their only loss was 1952.

Chapin (1-3) at Mid-Carolina (1-3)

Chapin leads the series 38-16 since 1958 (55th meeting)

The 1991,’95 and ’97 seasons saw Chapin go 0-2 against Newberry county. None of these losses came on consecutive weeks.

Chapin last started a season 1-4 in 2000.

Mid-Carolina last defeated Chapin at home in 1998.

Have met every year since 1961.

A win would give Mid-Carolina its fifth straight start of at least a 2-3 record. The Rebels also accomplished this, 1993-98 and 1970-1991.

A win would give Mid-Carolina a 2-1 record against Chapin in the last three years.

Whitmire (0-4) at Dixie (0-4)

Whitmire leads 23-9 since 1978.

Dixie has won the last two meetings. Their longest winning streak is three games, 1995-97.

“Dixie is a lot like us,” said Winnsboro coach Don Addis. “They are inexperienced at key positions. We’re both 0-4 so someone is going to be happy Friday night. It will be a challenge for us becuase they run the double wing offense very well. Hopefully, we’ll prepare well this week and be ready to play the game. We do have a couple of injuries that may limit playing time for a few of our guys.”
