The Newberry Fire Department will host its annual fun day on Sunday.

The event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. in front of Lowes on Main Street.

Newberry Fire Chief Keith Minick says his department normally sets a Sunday each September to host a community fun day.

In the past, the event has been a fishing rodeo but last year weather conditions forced the local firefighters to turn it into a fun day for children.

One of the highlights will be a fly-in by the Regional One helicopter, if the weather allows.

The event will include fire related displays to teach the public and children about fire safety.

The S.C. Forestry will bring in a bulldozer, Farm Bureau will have an agriculture simulator, and also EMS, the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office and Rescue Squad, Newberry Police and Fire Department and Bush River Fire Department will have equipment on display.

Also there will be blow-up mazes and other items for children to play in and on.

The children will also be treated to snow cones and popcorn.

The event is free and open to all.
