PROSPERITY — At Dee’s Place in Prosperity, Dee Hamm is not just “feeding bellies but feeding souls.”

Hamm is no stranger to the restaurant business, for years she owned D’s Place on Main Street in Prosperity. But she sold the business about seven years ago.

While supporting a local cancer patient at St. Jude’s, Hamm realized she was not ready to retire.

First Hamm went back to school and later found a job but she was not happy.

One day as she was passing by the former L-Bo’s bar she knew what she wanted.

That dream was to open a restaurant in the building and bring the closed business back to life.

“It’s my heart. I have put everything I had in it. If I die with nothing, then I am one rich woman,” said Hamm of the new business.

Since then Hamm has been in the fast lane.

Today the eatery on C.R. Koon Highway is staying busy with over 1,400 customers going through the doors in four Sundays.

The business offers both a menu and a hot bar.

The Sunday feature is a loaded buffet that is different each week. The selections includes meats, veggies, casseroles, deserts and a drink.

The now popular buffet is visited by several Sunday school classes and church groups each week.

On Thursday night’s the special is rib eyes, seafood night is on Friday and Saturday it is wings and ribs.

Hamm also plans to have special occasions events such as Valentine’s, for Santa, family nights and others.

The regular menu also includes a huge selection of hamburgers from the plain to the hot and spicy.

There are also meals of all kinds, country cooking, soups, salads and sandwiches.

Some of the homemade treats include chocolate cake, caramel apple cake, chocolate apple sauce, German chocolate cake and lemon pound cake.

Hamm adds if a person has special dietary needs that all they have to do is let her know and she can fix them something that fits their needs.

“I want to serve the best quality food and for people to leave full,” she said and she also wants the business to feel like a trip to grandma’s and not a restaurant.

She also wants to nurture her customers and says that every child that comes in the door is one of her babies.

Dee’s is open seven days a week on Sundays through Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
