NEWBERRY — Plates of food, bread and clothing were given out to needy Newberry residents on Saturday.

Willia Brown and friends gathered around 10 a.m. Saturday to begin handing out the plates from Brown Chapel Church in the Helena community.

But the process actually started around Halloween with Brown cooking and freezing homemade food for the event.

Each of the over 125 plates included ham, grilled chicken, macaroni and cheese, rice and gravy, stuffing and cake. Those attending were given tea.

Also the Living Hope Foundation, which is an agency that assists others, provided packages of bread items for each person getting a plate.

More than a dozen people volunteered to help with the event.

Brown says she raised more than $300 to help purchase the food items.

Also a tables with clothes were put out for those in need to choose items from.
