A few days back, we turned our calendars to September.

This is the beginning of a special time for many of us for various reasons. Some are just happy that temperatures will be dropping to acceptable levels.

Others might just love it because they have waited all summer just to enjoy football once again. Others might get excited this time of year because of the beautiful colors adorning our trees.

Many of us wait all year just to take vacation time for fall adventures. Others simply feel the sheer joy of being alive and able to enjoy all of the above.

Fall is certainly my favorite, but why does it have to seemingly pass so quickly?

Here at the chamber, our September events theme seems to be fall gardening since our lunch and learn will be sponsored by Wicker’s Greenhouse and Nursery and our business after hours will be held at Chappells Nursery and Garden Center.

October events feature a lunch and learn here at the chamber with Ernest Shealy telling ghost stories and our business after hours held at Park Sterling Bank.

Liz is working on our Oktoberfest Liver Nips competition set for Oct. 6. By the way, if you are interested, we still have room for another team or two.

Michelle is busy working, with Bill Braswell’s assistance, on our 20th Annual Golf Tournament. Many of you told us that you would prefer playing on a Monday afternoon rather than on football Friday, so we rescheduled our tournament for Oct. 8 with a shotgun start at noon. Lunch and dinner will be included for all entrants. Great prizes will be awarded.

The bottom line is you do not want to miss this great day at the Country Club of Newberry.

We are also working with local families to present a fantastic Christmas Tour of Homes slated to begin at 4 p.m. on Dec. 1.
