Elected officials to take oaths

NEWBERRY — Oaths of office will be given across the county this week.

On Wednesday Newberry County Council members Scott Cain, Steve Stockman, Kirksey Koon and Les Hipp will all be sworn in at the council meeting at 7 p.m.

Cain is the only newly elected council member.

The meeting will be held at the Newberry County Courthouse Annex on College Street and the oaths will be administered by Circuit Judge Eugene Griffith.

Also during the meeting the council will elect its chairman and vice chairman for the year.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster, Coroner Craig Newton, and Clerk of Court Jackie Bowers will each take their oaths of on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the court room of the Newberry County Court House on College Street.

Foster will begin his seventh term, likewise Bowers will begin her seventh term as clerk of court, and Newton will begin his second term as doroner.

The ceremony will be followed by an opportunity to speak with the elected officials at a social that will include light refreshments.

The oath will be administered by Griffith and the Honorable John Kittredge, justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court.

Also on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. the oaths of office will be given to the Whitmire mayor and councilmembers at the Whitmire Town Hall.
