Donaldson, Weiss lead Wolves to seventh place

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. - The Newberry College men’s golf team could not maintain its low scores from Monday and wrapped up the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate in seventh place with a 36-hole team score of 2-under par 574.

The Wolves added 10 strokes in the second round, while the other top teams in the field went lower. Mount Olive won the tournament at 13-under par 563. This was Newberry’s final tournament of the fall portion of its schedule.

Jon Weiss (Sumter) carded a 71 for the second straight round to tie for 10th at 2-under par 142. Ewen Donaldson (Edinburgh, Scotland) shot 72 Tuesday to match Weiss’ 10th place tie at 2-under par 142.

Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) tied for 17th at 1-under par 143, Layton Truax (Savannah, Ga.) tied for 34th at 3-over par 147 and Tommy Hurst (Miami, Fla.) tied for 39th at 4-over par 148.
