Abby Cathleen Counts and James Barron Kesler were united in marriage on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at St. James Lutheran Church in Newberry. The 6 p.m. ceremony was officiated by the Rev. D. Rodney Gunter. Mr. Huger Caughman provided the music for the ceremony. Miss Megan Long was the soloist. The guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Counts. A reception immediately followed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dave C. Waldrop Jr.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Counts of Kinards and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Counts also of Kinards and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Crowder of Joanna. Abby is a graduate of Lander University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with an emphasis in healthcare management. She is employed by Springfield Place in Newberry.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Kesler of Newberry and Ms. Bonnie Bartley of Saluda. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Kesler of Newberry, the late Mr. and Mrs. Barron Crawford of Saluda and Mrs. Doratha Schumpert and the late Mr. Fred Schumpert of Newberry. Barry is a graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife and fisheries biology. He is a teacher and coach at Newberry Academy.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Her matron of honor was Mrs. Katie Shaw, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Miss Melynda Kesler, sister of the groom; Mrs. Stephanie Lake, Mrs. Brittany Aga, Miss Whitley Rawls, Miss Tabitha Shaw and Miss Mary Frances Whitaker, friends of the bride. Honorary bridesmaids were Miss Lindsey Bledsoe, Miss Lauren Bledsoe, Miss Chelsea Bannister, friends of the bride, and Miss Haley Stuck and Mrs. Danielle Little, sisters of the groom. Flower girl was Miss Ellie Shaw, daughter of friends of the bride and groom.

The groom’s father, Mr. Craig Kesler, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Christopher Counts, brother of the bride; Mr. J. D. Lake, Mr. Jimmie Lee Shaw, Mr. Jason Bouknight, Mr. Blake Hendrix and Mr. Lane Kennedy, friends of the groom. Ushers were Mr. Jarrod Mills, Mr. Wayne Barker, Mr. Keith Berry, Mr. Ben Padget and Mr. J. C. Counts, cousin of the bride. Ring bearer was Master David Van Zadelhoff, cousin of the groom.

The couple will reside in Newberry.
