The only purpose of the Sept. 11 City of Newberry election will be for voting on a Sunday alcohol sales referendum.

Only three incumbents have filed for the Newberry City Council elections but there were no write-in candidates.

Incumbents Edwin Wicker is the only person to file for District Two; Greg Summer has filed for District 4 and in District 6 David DuBose has filed.

Since the incumbents have no challengers they will automatically be elected to another term.

But the city will continue with the Sept. 11 referendum to ask voters if alcohol can be sold on premises at bars, restaurants and other venues.

Voting will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
