Christmas in Whitmire ongoing

Hello readers and happy holidays to you. Local news on the way but first our birthday wishes from Gottrocks the Birthday Fairy. Happy birthday to Betty Thompson, Wil Bodie, Robbie Jennings, Elaine Kidd, William “Lefty” Johnson, Ann O. Fallaw, Chrystal Harsha, Debbie Harris, Susie Wilson, Michelle B. Moore, Rosemary M. Jones, Jenny D. Gold, Jackie Frazier and Jennifer N. Dalenburg.

We send our belated happy anniversary wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Frye.

On a sad note, we send our sympathies and best wishes to the families of Mr. F. E. “Spud” Lusk, Jack Lusk, Dillard Alexander, Walter Brown and Mrs. Jeanette “Pete” Nelson.

Known as “Spud,” Earl Lusk is survived by his wife Janie, daughters Paige and Paula, and granddaughters. Spuds’ brother James “Jack” Lusk passed away days after Spuds’ passing. Both Jack and “Spuds” lived in Newberry County, and attended Newberry County Schools. Jack was a partner owner in the popular sixties skating rink, Fowler –Lusk Skateland on the Newberry Highway, now known as the Antique Auction Barn. Jack is survived by his wife Ruth and three children, Laurie, Tracy and Kevin; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters.

Former Whitmire resident Mr. Dillard Alexander was the owner and operator of Alexander’s Jewelers in Whitmire. He and his late wife Eloise are the parents of Steve and Wanda, several grandchildren. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife Grace.

Local news and events

The Pack No. 200 of The Whitmire Cub Scouts will continue their bi-monthly meetings every second and fourth Thursday of the month at The Whitmire Community Center at 6 p.m. Contact person is Brittany Willams at 803-271-3567.

The Whitmire Jaycees are coordinating their Christmas Cheer Fun. Over 26 families have been adapted. The pick day for parents/guardians is Dec. 21 between 3-5 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church. Christmas events

The members of First Baptist Church will present their Christmas drama on Sunday, Dec. 23 at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. The annual Christmas Eve Prayer/Communion service will be Monday, Dec. 24 at 5 p.m.

The Masters’ Baptist Church have begun phase one of their new building project. The youth of the church also enjoyed a tree decorating and pizza party last Wednesday.

Whitmire Commununity School students, faculty and staff enjoyed a night of Christmas celebration, Dec. 12 as the WCS Concert Band and the elementary chorus presented Christmas music. The Town Of Whitmire employees and town officials enjoyed a Christmas dinner at the community center the same night as the concert.

The Town of Whitmire has a new Facebook page. The page will be used for providing information to the community, special announcements, meetings and Whitmire related events.

The Whitmire Recreation Department is still taking winter sports registration forms. The biddie ball games will begin in January. Contact Town Hall at 694-2356.
