It is only a part of a foundation but soon a new building on Hollands Landing Road will host injured military and children with illnesses.
The Freedom and Hope Foundation is working to build a new lodge that will be almost three times the size of the current one.
The lodge hosts wounded military members as well as children with cancer so they can go on hunting and fishing excursions.
Around 70 percent of the materials for the building has already been donated, said founder Terry Cotney.
But he still needs metal siding, a roof, doors and windows.
The venture has started with the sink, land, lumber and cabinets being given and now includes the donation of a sprinkler system and heat and air conditioning.
This weekend, children from Royal Rangers in Charleston will come to Prosperity to help harvest heart pine timber from an old house, pressure wash it and start the drying process for the new 36 by 66 foot building.
The building will include two large bedrooms and sleep 15, said Cotney.
“It will be paid for in two months,” hopes Cotney. “We are rapidly finding donors for the shell of this building and other materials are being pledged.”
Stokes-Trainor owner Joe Trainor helped out Tuesday by donating $675 for the labor for the trusses.
Trainor remembers the early days of Freedom and Hope when the need was simply to pay for a hunting trip for some injured heroes.
Once the building is framed and dried in, local churches and civic groups will be able to adopt rooms and complete them.
Donations can be made to any First Community Bank with deposits to Freedom and Hope Foundation Building Fund.
Also 10 hunts are scheduled for the fall and hosts are welcome to sponsor meals, baked goods or other items.
