CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Newberry senior Jessie Baldwin (Camden) finished 32nd in the women’s race, while the Wolves’ men finished in 18th out of 26 teams at the NCAA Division II Southeast Region meet at McAlpine Park on Saturday morning.
In the women’s race, Baldwin’s six-kilometer time of 23:51.2 was good enough for 32nd in the race and was Newberry’s fastest-ever NCAA regional time by a female runner by over three minutes. Rebecca Eddy (Eugene, Ore.) finished in 124th with a time of 26:38.6.
In the men’s race the Newberry team finished ahead of four South Atlantic Conference teams, improving on their performance at the conference meet two weeks ago. Nathan Collier (Weatherford, Texas) was the Wolves’ top finisher in 58th place on the 10-kilometer course with a time of 34:08.5, with Michael Waltrip (Murrieta, Calif.) in 66th at 34:17.7. Peter Hackett (Sumter) was 120th at 36:15.8, Austin Sorenson (Murrieta, Calif.) was 126th at 36:28.7, Alex Holshoe (Hopkins, Mich.) was 140th at 37:51.0 and Termaine Harvey (Homestead, Fla.) was 147th at 38:40.8
