Adum perfect as Wolves split with Saints, Sailfish

HILTON HEAD ISLAND — Newberry junior Romina Adum was a perfect 2-0 in both doubles and singles action on Wednesday as she recorded four victories on the day as Newberry topped Ashford 5-4 in the morning before falling 7-2 to No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic.

Newberry 5, Ashford 4

In the Wolves’ (5-5) morning session at the Van der Meer Tennis Center the Wolves knocked off the Saints of Ashford 5-4. Newberry’s victory opened up with a couple of points in doubles action as Newberry’s No. 1 pair of juniors Romina Adum and Susana Aguirre picked up an 8-1 win over Ursula Alvardo and Adriana Obando.

At No. 2 doubles freshman Tara Lamers and junior Ariel Strong won via a small margin picking up an 8-6 victory over Jalyn Deering and Alicia Williams.

In singles action the top half of the Newberry lineup earned victories as at No. 1 Aguirre knocked off Alvardo in three sets, while Strong also earned a three-set victory at No. 3. Adum earned the Wolves’ lone two-set victory as she dropped only one game in her win over Obdano.

No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic 7, Newberry 2

On Wednesday afternoon, the Wolves fell to the No. 21 Sailfish despite Adum’s victory in singles and doubles action. Adum helped the Wolves pick up a single point in doubles action as she teamed with Aguirre for an 8-3 win over Veena Vasquez and Victoria Baca.

Adum earned the sole singles victory of the afternoon for the Wolves as she pulled off a straight sets victory over Baca.
