Girls State truly was an amazing, life changing, once in a lifetime experience.
I was lucky enough to be selected as the Newberry Academy Girls State delegate for 2012.
During the summer I journeyed to Presbyterian College in Clinton, and was joined by other delegates from all across the state who were also chosen for their leadership skills and citizenship.
Girls State is about encouraging and developing leadership skills, as well as grasping a better understanding about American Government.
Girls State ran for a total of seven days, during which time I participated in elections, public speaking, and learned about ways to serve my community.
Although there was lots of hard work involved, it was also a lot of fun. I have made lasting friendships with some amazing girls, heard some inspirational speakers, and also had the privilege of meeting my sponsor from the American Legion Auxiliary.
I cannot express what a wonderful opportunity attending Girls State was and I would encourage girls who have an interest in leadership skills, government, and community service to strive towards attending this incredible conference.
