More than likely, most of you will not remember the date, Wednesday, December 28, 2011, but trust me when I say it was a typical cold, blustery day here in Newberry. At least cold by those of us who have grown to appreciate our mild southern winter climate.

Now, it is at this point you are probably asking yourself why I would vividly recall that date. OK, let me explain: That particular day, I was making calls on businesses who I felt needed to be taking advantage of Chamber membership. I walked into the SERVPRO office, located at 134 Wilson Park Drive (just down the street behind NAPA Auto Parts, out on Wilson Road), and little did I know that I would meet a person who would prove beneficial in making your Chamber what it is today, that being Kimberly Kitchens.

Kimberly introduced me to her husband, Mel, and we discussed their business as well as what Chamber membership might do for them. I quickly learned that SERVPRO is a Godsend to anyone who might encounter catastrophic damage to their home or business, or any type of restoration or cleanup following a disaster.

“What does this company do?” you might ask. Well, living in South Carolina, from time to time, one is bound to encounter problems related to moisture, i.e. leaks, mold, mildew, storm damage, etc. Then one might also have smoke and fire damage, and many other undesirable conditions which can cause medical conditions for you and your loved ones. So, what is the one name and number that you need to have for any of those conditions? That would be SERVPRO of Newberry and Laurens Counties — (803) 276-0290.

Of course, Mel and Kimberly realize your home and its furnishings are very important to you and they promise to treat these items as if they were their very own. But that is not the end of what the Kitchens family does for our citizens. Mel and Kimberly believe in giving back to a community they have grown to love.

Kimberly has proven to be an active Chamber member by offering her assistance at our events, as well as assisting in community projects. She even helps us visit Chamber members offering encouragement and sharing ideas on how each member might improve their business. This is a wonderful family, and I encourage you to stop by their office, meet them if you haven’t already, and help them share a milestone as they celebrate their fourth anniversary.

Just drop in anytime during business hours on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, and make additional memories with Kimberly and Mel at SERVPRO of Newberry and Laurens Counties.

We all hope and pray we will never face any type of catastrophic loss, but here in Newberry, should that ever happen, you can have an edge if you have taken the time to visit and get to know these wonderful folks at SERVPRO.

Meanwhile, here at your Chamber, we are busy preparing for our 23rd Annual Golf Tournament to be held at the Mid Carolina Club on Monday, September 21 with a shotgun start at noon.

We would certainly appreciate your involvement and support, and this year’s tournament promises a day of merriment away from the daily grind, so come out and celebrate with us. Should you not be able to golf, then simply call 276-4274 and let Liz, Michelle, or me discuss the many benefits you can enjoy simply through Chamber membership.
