NEWBERRY — The Newberry College cross country teams were picked to finish 12th in the men’s and women’s preseason polls released Aug. 21.
New head coach Phil Peterson brings an impressive list of accomplishments, both running and coaching, and will look to have the Wolves are on pace to see improvement.
The men’s team is coming off a 23rd place at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional last season and were led by a 73rd place finish by Nathan Collier. Collier finished the 10K course with a time of 34:23.
Senior Austin Sorensen was Newberry’s second finisher with a time of 34:50 at 85th place. Sophomore Conner Roudabush was 167th at 39:08, sophomore Christian Lawyer was 183rd at 44:59.
On the women’s side, senior Rebecca Eddy led the Wolves at the NCAA regional by placing 166th with a time of 27:46. Behind her, junior Romina Adum was 171st at 27:53, senior Kelley Strong was 175th at 28:20 and sophomore Makaylyn Higgins was 201st at 30:21. The women’s team competed as individuals.
