MacLEAN, Va. — Newberry College junior wrestler Jared Holliday has been named Capital One Academic All-District as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America. His honor was announced Thursday.


Holliday advances to the ballot for Academic All-America status and adds to an outstanding season of accolades. He is one of six Division II wrestlers in the CoSIDA listings and one of 26 wrestlers in all divisions.


Holliday earned All-American honors with a sixth place finish at 184 lbs. at the NCAA Division II National Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio, in March. He set the Newberry single-season record for pins with 19 and had a 41-13 overall record along with championships at The Citadel and King Opens.


Holliday has twice been named to the National Wrestling Coaches’ Association All-Academic team as well. The Vice President of Phi Beta Lambda, Holliday has been on the Newberry Dean’s List three of his five terms at Newberry College.


An International Business major, Holliday is a regular volunteer at the Newberry County Literacy Council and Newberry Adult Education Center as a teacher of English as a second language. Holliday is also double minoring in accounting and Spanish.
