NEWBERRY — Newberry College head men’s basketball coach Dave Davis has announced the signing of his first recruit of the 2014 class — Devante Foster of Carolina High School in Greenville.

The 6-foot guard averaged 19.7 points per game and led Carolina to 59 wins and three region championships in his four year varsity career.

The three time all-region player also averaged seven rebounds, three steals and three assists in his senior year. Foster scored 37 points had 12 rebounds and eight assists in a big win over Chesnee and scored 35 points with seven rebounds and five assists against Blacksburg.

Devante was also selected to play in the prestigious 2014 North-South All-Star Game made up of the top 20 players in the state of South Carolina.

“Devante Foster was clearly one of the best players in the state of South Carolina and a perfect fit for the Newberry Way,” said Davis. “He is a lefty, is a big time athlete, can play any position and is tough - all qualities we need to improve our current team. We return almost everyone on our team that won 19 games and set a Newberry record for conference wins and Devante has a chance to make an immediate impact.”
