IVA — The Mid-Carolina High School Lady Rebels headed to Crescent on Saturday afternoon in playoff action but sloppy defense and an early six-run deficit proved too much for Gaye Green’s young club to overcome in a 13-1 defeat.

Tori Caldwell led MCHS with two hits and an RBI but few other Rebels could muster much against the Tigers.

The Rebels had four hits for the game, but they had five errors. Cassi Ruff, the hero Thursday night, had two errors. Caldwell, Jayden Peel and Madyson Murphy had trouble with the leather as they each had one error.

The Tigers pulled ahead 6-0 in the first inning.

Charlsy Traylor ran into trouble and gave up three runs early. MCHS went to junior Ashlyn Courtney but she fared little better as she gave up 10 runs on eight hits.

They added four in the third inning and tacked on three more in the fourth.

The Crescent pitcher pounded the zone with the big lead and MCHS mounted few rallies against her.

Gracen Hester and Kelly Cantrell managed hits but that was all the Rebels could do in the loss.

MCHS plays at 6 p.m. Monday in a home elimination game against the Saluda Tigers.
