WHITMIRE — On April 29, the Mid-Carolina Rebels traveled to Whitmire for the last game for both teams of the regular season. The final score was Mid-Carolina 12, Whitmire 4.


Lefty Trey Huber was on the bump for the Rebels. He pitched a complete game giving up seven hits, striking out nine, issuing one walk, hitting two batters, with four runs scored.


Whitmire’s coach decided to pitch by committee and used a different pitcher each inning.


The Rebels scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Danton Hyman led off with a single but was thrown out at second on a fielder’s choice by Shealy. Justin Hawkins walked and Ryan Stoudemire advanced to first on an error.


Shawn Sexton scored Shealy and Hawkins with a double. Their third run was plated in the top of the second when Chris Edwards walked, stole second and crossed home on Cole Shealy’s double.


Whitmire rallied back in the bottom of the third scoring three runs to tie the ball game.


Mid-Carolina was held scoreless in the third and fourth innings but scored two runs the top of the fifth.


Hawkins led off with a triple to deep left centerfield and scored on a sacrfice fly to center by Ryan Stoudemire. Ty Glymph and Malik Pearson walked. Glymph stole third and scored on a throwing error.


Whitmire added their fourth and final run in the bottom of the fifth inning.


The Rebels scored six runs in the top of the sixth.


Shealy, Hawkins and Stoudemire walked and scored on a dropped ball hit to centerfield by Sexton. Glymph walked. Pearson’s single scored Sexton and a throwing error scored Glymph and moved Pearson to third.


Crotwell single scoring Pearson for the sixth run of the inning. The Rebels added one more run in the seventh on walks.


The top batters for Mid-Carolina were Hawkins (1-2, triple), Pierson (1-1), and Edwards (2-3).


Both the Rebels(AA) and Wolverines(A) move to the playoffs with their first games on May 1.


The Rebels have home field advantage as Champions of Region II.


They will face Landrum, the fourth place team from Region 1, and Whitmire will play Southside Christian.
