After the Rebels’ first playoff appearance in five years, three Mid-Carolina High School players garnered awards from region coaches. Junior Zach Parker made All-Region and became the first player to make the AA All-State Team from MCHS since 2005. A guard/small forward, he averaged 19.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game in helping lead MCHS to its first playoff win in 16 years.
Zy Hiller, pictured here, secures a rebound versus Newberry High School last season. Hustle plays like that made Hiller a coach’s selection for the All-Region team. Hiller used his wingspan and athleticism to average 9.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.4 steals per game for the Rebels.
Danton Hyman, called the team’s emotional leader by Coach Emmanuel Dewalt, also was honored as All-Region by region coaches. MCHS was one of the few teams to place three players on the All-Region squad. Hyman averaged 13.2 points per game and led the team with 4.7 assists per game. He also averaged 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Dewalt said he was proud of the team effort that went into his players earning individual awards. “Our staff feels comfortable playing against anybody when these three are on top of their games. Danton and Zy’s ability to score and make things happen help create scoring opportunities for Zach,” Dewalt said.
