KENOSHA, Wis. — Newberry redshirt junior Seiji Borja and junior Jared Holliday have both been named first team All-Academic by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, while the team rates as the No. 15 team in the NCAA Division II based on team GPA.
Borja becomes the first Newberry wrestler to earn first team All-Academic honors multiple times a year after becoming the first Newberry wrestler to find a spot on the All-Academic first team. A nursing major, Borja was a CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America selection a year ago and has been a member of the Newberry College Dean’s List five of his six semesters on campus. Borja was a 2013 Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award honoree.
Holliday, is a first-time selection to the first team, but also becomes a two-time All-Academic honoree after earning second team recognition a year ago. The vice president of Phi Beta Lambda, Holliday has been on the Newberry Dean’s List three of his five terms at Newberry College.
An International Business major, Holliday is a regular volunteer at the Newberry County Literacy Council and Newberry Adult Education Center as a teacher of English as a second language. Holliday is also double minoring in accounting and Spanish.
The Wolves ranked 15th nationally in team GPA, marking the first time in the program’s history the scarlet and gray have ranked in the top 20 listing. Based on the calculations used, the Wolves had a team grade point average of 3.086.
