NEWBERRY — The S.C. Independent School Association Region 2 1A held its region championships in Columbia last Friday night. The middle school boys lost 41-32 to Anderson Christian.


Daniel Bannister and Matthew Cole were named to the region All-Tournament team.


Although the middle school girls did not make it to the championship game, Amber Suber was named to the All-Tournament team.


The varsity boys lost a heart-breaking double-overtime game to Laurens Academy, 64-61, but received some personal accolades. C.J. Connelly and Jacob Epting were named to the All-Tournament team, and Epting, Justin Suber, and Dylan Skipper were named to the All-Region team.


The Lady Eagles stole the show, winning the region championship as they defeated King Academy, 27-19. Kaitlyn Nobles was named to the All-Tournament team, and Darby Dail was named the Tournament MVP. Emily Senn earned All-Region recognition, and Andie Getz was named the region’s Most Valuable Player. Lady Eagles Coach Travis Gilliam was named the region Coach of the Year.


Both varsity teams expect high seeds in the SCISA State Tournament.
