NEWBERRY — The Newberry Middle School Tigers boys basketball team capped a 10-2 regular season Monday night with a 50-36 home victory over rival Mid-Carolina Middle School.
The Rebels chipped away at a 7-1 Tiger run to open the game. They cut the lead to 9-4 but then NMS went on another tear to pull ahead 21-9 with 2:53 remaining in the second quarter. MCMS boxed out and used second chance points to cut the lead to 10 at the half, 23-13. But the Tigers regrouped at halftime and came out in fired up in the second half to complete the nightly sweep of MCMS.
Cade Ruff led all scorers with 18. He posted a double-double for MCMS with 12 rebounds and chipped in two steals, two assists and two blocks. Rod Byrd added nine rebounds and eight points for the Rebels. Kaleb Boland had five points and two steals for MCMS.
The Tigers were led in scoring by Tariq Goodman with 14 points. Terrell Rogers added eight and Darius York added seven for the Tigers.
