NEWBERRY — The Newberry Academy basketball teams had another full schedule last week with four games each.
The varsity girls won all four games, pushing their season record to 15-4, and their region record now stands at 9-1.
The varsity boys started off the week on a strong note, picking up three wins, but lost at Laurens on Friday night, 68-52. Their overall record is now 13-7, with their region record at 8-2.
The varsity girls won easily in their first three match-ups, beating Northside Christian 55-29, Covenant Christian 43-21, and Glenforest 60-18.
After struggling early against Laurens, they pulled away in the second half, winning 43-33. For the week, the Lady Eagles were powered by Andie Getz and Emily Senn, who averaged 14 points and 11 points, respectively. Carman Franklin had back to back 8 point games early in the week, and senior Amanda Crayne led the team with 11 points against Glenforest.
Freshman Alysia Skipper had her season high of 10 points in the Glenforest game. The varsity boys started the week with a forfeit win over Northside Christian, a 61-35 win over Covenant Christian and a 69-38 win over Glenforest.
For the week, Dillon Skipper had two 11 point games, and CJ Connelly scored 12 against Glenforest and 10 against Laurens. Senior Jacob Epting had a 20 point effort against Covenant Christian, and Luke Carraway had a team high 13 points in the loss at Laurens.
Newberry Academy faced Mead Hall on Tuesday, and the varsity boys will travel to the coast on Saturday to face the top team in SCISA 1A, Myrtle Beach Christian.
