NEWBERRY — Just like their Lady Bulldog counterparts, the varsity Newberry High boys are on a three game winning streak for 2014 as well as a 14-game regional winning streak as they never trailed in their 71-65 victory Tuesday evening in the Scott Gym over Abbeville.
Newberry led after the first quarter, 21-8 and at the break, 42-25, but the Panthers went on a 26-to-17 third quarter run to cut the lead to single digits, 59-51.
Abbeville cut the Newberry lead to a mere four points, 65-61 with 3:30 left in the game, but a Jaylen Lindsay dunk would give the Bulldogs at least a five-point lead for the duration of the evening.
Trey Miller, who was honored before the game for scoring his 1000th career point last month, had a game-high 23 points, including making five three-pointers
Bennett Wilson and Lindsay scored 12 points apiece.
Notorious Booker’s three-of-four opportunities from the charity stripe aided in his eight points for the evening while Dominic Gilmore (7), Trey Gary (5) and Devin Harmon and Demarcus Gilmore rounded out the Newberry scoring with two points apiece.
Newberry will travel to Ninety Six on Friday before the hosting of Batesburg-Leesville on Tuesday and Mid-Carolina on Friday, the 25th.
The Bulldogs will have their last non-region game next Saturday with the hosting of Fairfield Central.
