NEWBERRY — The Newberry High School varsity Lady Bulldogs never trailed Tuesday evening in the Scott Gym as they picked up their third straight victory of the year and tenth overall region victory with their 74-53 victory over Abbeville.


Trailing by a lone point after the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 27-to-8 second quarter run as they had a season high number of points both at the half (38) as well as for the game.


Tyshira Bates had an evening high 25 points including 16 points in the second quarter.


Nigeria Davis and Kelsey Felks scored 14 points apiece while Esha Mathis finished with 12.


Davis and Mathis scored in each of the four quarters of play.


Maya Miller and Jalia Perry each scored their points in the fourth quarter with four and three respectively while Arnasia Boyd contributed two free-throws.


Newberry will travel to Ninety Six on Friday before hosting three games next week: Batesburg-Leesville (Tuesday), Mid-Carolina (Friday) and Fairfield Central on Saturday.
