PROSPERITY — Trailing 17-22, the Mid-Carolina High School varsity boys went on a 33-to-19 second half run to pick up their first victory of the season, posting a 50-41 win over Gilbert.
Zach Parker was the lone Rebel to score in each of the four quarters. He finished with 16 points.
Dante Boyd saw a team-high of eight points fall through in the third quarter as he scored 10 points. Jhi Wright and Danton Hyman scored seven points each for the Rebels.
Also, Dominique Wheeler scored four points while the Mid-Carolina scoring ended with the two points each of Zy Hiller, Johnathan Wheeler and Malik Pearson.
Tied at eight points apiece, Mid-Carolina finished the first quarter on a 9-to-2 point run. They would also take the lead into the locker rooms, 29-23.
The teams traded the lead back and forth thought throughout the second half. The Rebels had a one-point advantage with 43.8 seconds left in the game when the other team’s head coach was given a technical foul for arguing when a jump ball was called instead of a foul.
Parker converted both free throws, giving his team a 63-60 advantage. Wright turned the game into a two possession game, 65-60, with 11.1 seconds left after rebounding a missed shot by the Tigers, for the final score.
Parker finished with 24 points while Hyman scored 10. Boyd and Ben Chandler each scored seven points for the Rebels while Hiller and Dominique Wheeler each scored six points. Wright finished with three points while Pearson scored two.
