ANDERSON — Tasia Holdorf led Newberry with 14 points as the Wolves fell 87-55 on the road to the Anderson Trojans at the Abney Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves opened the scoring with 19:06 on the clock, but saw Anderson enter into the scoring column as the two teams exchanged leads over the opening five minutes of the game.
Newberry’s final lead of the day came with 15:25 on the clock as a Heather Jankowy jumper cut the Wolves’ lead to one. Jankowy’s jumper followed a layup from Newberry junior Haylee Lepaio.
Anderson regained the lead on the following possession off a jumper from Jennifer Monroe and never looked back, as the Trojans extended their lead to 23 points as the opening half expired.
The Trojans continued to push the Wolves as Anderson saw their lead reach 35 points with 6:06 remaining in the second period, before time expired on a 32-point victory over Newberry.
Anderson outscored Newberry 21-7 off turnovers as the Wolves notched 22 turnovers in the game. Anderson scored 87 points off of 21 assists, while the Wolves totaled nine assists on the afternoon.
Holdorf, a senior, led Newberry with 14 points and added eight rebounds to her stat line. Lepaio, along with fellow junior Zara Pearson, notched 12 points, while senior Devanee Taylor scored 11 points in the loss. Lepaio grabbed nine rebounds, while Holdorf snagged eight.
Newberry has an opportunity to rebound from the Anderson loss on Tuesday as the Wolves host Voorhees at 6 p.m. inside of Eleazer Arena.
