Wolves dominate Lindsey Wilson, Belmont Abbey
NEWBERRY — The Newberry wrestling squad opened its 2013-14 duals season with a pair of resounding wins in Eleazer Arena on Sunday, dominating NAIA No. 5 Lindsey Wilson 42-3 and walloping Belmont Abbey 41-7.
Of the 20 matches on the day, Newberry won 17 with 13 bonus point victories.
Newberry (2-0) is off for finals week before hosting the seventh annual Newberry Duals on Dec. 7.

The Wolves got off to a rolling start as Jeff Vesta, Brandon Thompson and Dyllan Greene all pinned their opposition in the first period, with Vesta needing only 33 seconds.
After Seiji Borja was tripped up by decision, Kayne Melko and Blake Ridenour won by decision.
Joe Pittman rolled to an 18-0 technical fall and Jared Holliday won a decision over the NAIA’s No. 1 wrestler at 184 pounds.
Braden Carter pinned his opponent in the second period and Matt Wade won by major decision to close out the dominating season opening victory.

Travis Laxton started another run of five straight wins for Newberry with his decision win at 125 pounds.
Virgil Toms earned a pin in the first period followed by Greene’s second bonus point win of the day with an 11-0 major decision shutout at 141 lbs.
Borja needed just 33 seconds of the second period to earn a pin in his second match of the day, followed by Melko’s second period pin at 157 lbs.
After a pair of losses at 165 pounds and 174 pounds, the Wolves closed the dual with a run of big wins.
Holliday pinned his opponent in the first period, followed by Carter’s second pin of the day. Wade closed out the day with a win by major decision.
