ROCK HILL — Newberry College senior Samantha Parrish has been named Second Team All-South Atlantic Conference, while junior Jessica King was named Honorable Mention All-SAC and freshman Logan Hayward earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team as released by the conference office Thursday.
Parrish wrapped up the regular season of her senior year with 312 kills and 2.97 kills per set, good for eighth and ninth in the conference, respectively. With 382 digs, Parrish sits at 11th in the SAC, is 3rd with 20 solo blocks and is 13th in service aces with 30.
A four-time All-SAC honoree, Parrish holds the school record in kills and is ranked in the top ten at Newberry all-time in kills, digs, service aces and total blocks. Parrish earned DAKTRONICS All-Southeast Region Second Team honors in 2012, and was recently named a 2013 Capital One Academic All-District selection.
King, earns her first postseason recognition from the conference after finishing the year in the top 25 in multiple statistical categories. King wrapped up the regular season in the top 25 in the SAC for kills, hitting percentage, solo blocks, block assists total blocks and points. King impressed throughout the season as she led the conference with 21 solo blocks and 97 total blocks, while finishing the year sixth in the conference with a .307 hitting percentage.
Hayward’s debut season featured 254 kills and 16 solo blocks. The freshman finished the season 19th in the conference in kills and fourth in solo blocks. Hayward is the first Newberry player to earn
All-Freshman Team honors since the 2011 season when Lauren Prachar earned recognition from the conference.
