INDIANAPOLIS — The Newberry Wolves dropped to fifth place in this week’s release of the NCAA Division II Super Region II rankings released Monday.

Newberry (8-2 overall, 5-2 South Atlantic Conference) lost 52-31 at Carson-Newman last weekend, but still finds itself in playoff contention with one regular season game remaining. The Wolves host North Greenville at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The top six teams on Nov. 17 in the official regional ranking will qualify for the NCAA Division II Playoffs, starting Nov. 23.

Lenoir-Rhyne and UNC Pembroke are ranked first and second in the ranking, followed by North Alabama in third and Carson-Newman in fourth.

After Newberry in fifth are West Alabama in sixth, Tuskegee in seventh, Delta State in eighth, Miles in ninth and Lane in 10th.

Lenoir-Rhyne plays Catawba on Saturday and UNCP is out of Division II with a game against Virginia University of Lynchburg. Carson-Newman travels to Wingate, while North Alabama takes a long road trip to Tarleton State (Texas), which is ranked sixth in Super Region IV.

West Alabama hosts Central State (Ohio) with Tuskegee sitting idle. Delta State plays West Georgia on Thursday night, Miles plays Fort Valley State in the SIAC Championship Game in Atlanta and Lane is also idle.
