Wolves back in AFCA Coaches’ Poll at No. 25
NEWBERRY — Following last Saturday’s upset victory over then-No. 8 UNC Pembroke, the Newberry College Wolves have jumped back into the top 25 in the nation according to today’s American Football Coaches’ Association Division II Coaches’ Poll.
The Wolves (7-1 overall, 4-1 South Atlantic Conference) are ranked 25th in the poll with 59 votes. This is Newberry’s second appearance in the poll this season and 24th appearance in the poll since it began in 2000.
This Saturday’s 1 p.m. game against Brevard will be the Wolves’ first home game as a ranked team since a 41-3 win over North Greenville as the 22nd team in the nation in September 2008.
Newberry is 15-9 all-time as a ranked team. Three of Newberry’s final five opponents of the 2013 season are in the top 25 this week, with Carson-Newman at 16th, UNC Pembroke dropped from eighth to 19th with the loss to Newberry and Lenoir-Rhyne is ranked 22nd.
