KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Despite falling to Wingate on Saturday the Newberry women’s soccer team has moved up to No. 9 in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire Division II Southeast Region rankings.
Newberry (8-5, 5-3 SAC) moved up from No. 10 after opening the week with a 1-0 home victory over the visiting Bobcats of Georgia College and State. The Wolves’ lone goal came in the 10th minute as junior Gabrielle Brodie scored off an assist from junior Brayden Miller.
Newberry’s 2-0 loss on Saturday came at the hands of the No. 3 team in the region, Wingate.
The Wolves are led offensively by Brodie and her team-high four goals. Brodie also leads Newberry with five assists and 13 points. Newberry has recorded seven clean sheets on the season and hold a 17-12 advantage in goals scored over opponents.
Newberry sits ahead of conference foe No. 10 Queens, while Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate sit No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
Tomorrow marks the first conference game for Newberry against new SAC foe Coker. The Wolves and Cobras are set to kickoff at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow in Hartsville.
